We invite you to participate in our joint publication:
Passive House Buildings in Canada – Transforming How We Build
Passive House Canada is collaborating with Passive House Buildings/Low Carbon Productions on a book documenting the phenomenal growth in completed and in-progress Passive House buildings across Canada. Passive House Canada will use this book to further build demand for Passive House projects and Passive House-friendly policies in all provinces. The book will be available in hard copy and digital formats.
Our Goal is to showcase the range of Passive House projects throughout the country, demonstrating that comfortable, healthy, and efficient buildings come in a variety of sizes and building types. This book will enable us all to promote and market this leading-edge building methodology. All participants will be given copies of the book to use for your own sales.
The Mitacs Career Connect program is currently offering opportunities for projects that aim to protect the environment, create positive environmental outcomes, or address an environmental or climate change-related challenge. The program provides a 50 per cent employment subsidy to eligible organizations for a six-month green project that offers STEM-career experience for a young graduate. Sustainable planning and urban design, including Passive House projects, are eligible funding areas.
The Passive House Institute recently formally introduced the renewal option for tradesman certification via trades documentation. The overall procedure—with the initial inspection of trades documentation and the contract design—is based on the project documentation provided by designers. A MicroSoft Word template is available to use for submitting this information. The building does not have to be a certified Passive House, as the conditions apply to the individual building components.
Passive House Canada is thrilled to invite you to join us from November 7 – 8, 2018 for the Passive House Canada Conference! The conference call for speakers received over 100 submissions by Passive House Professionals across Canada in and Europe.
We look forward to announcing the conference’s preliminary program in the first week of July.
Passive House Canada is collaborating with the UN Economic Commission for Europe (ECE) Committee on Forests and the Forest Industry, the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, and the Canadian Wood Council, which will be holding annual conferences alongside ours in the same facility. The week’s conference events are aligned by a focus on the emerging market transformation within the building and forestry industries and the overlaps and intersections in trends and opportunities these industries are experiencing.
The conference is an incredible opportunity to demonstrate and learn how, in relation to buildings, the UN can achieve its Sustainable Development Goals, Canada can meet its Paris Commitments and achieve the goals identified in the Pan Canadian Framework, Build Smart and the Greening Government Strategy, moving forward on Net Zero Ready buildings.
Passive House Canada’s program takes place on November 7 and 8, and complements the UNECE program, which begins November 5, and Wood Council’s program, scheduled for November 6. Conference-related tours are scheduled for November 9, including tours of Vancouver-area Passive House buildings.
Thanks to generous support from our partner, the Regional District of Nanaimo, we’re offering special discounted rates on this winter’s building enclosures master class in Nanaimo.

The Passive House Institute is extending the conference’s early bird rate until January 28th, 2018 for Passive House Canada members. After January 28, groups of eight or more members can receive a 15 per cent discount off the regular conference registration fee. (Discount does not apply to workshop fees, tours, or evening events.)
