Passive House Canada offers two distinct service pathways to meet a range of needs for suppliers, manufacturers and designers.
Verification is a process by which the performance of a component or system is confirmed in relation to international high performance standards. Verification provides vital data that helps builders, designers and developers understand how your product will work in relation to a high performance energy budget. Having your components verified expedites the acceptance of your product in the Passive House and high-performance building market, and ensures that your component is eligible for funding.
Component modelling for certification is the process of ensuring, by design and testing, that a product can be accepted by the Passive House Institute as meeting Passive House Institute performance levels.
These two pathways are suitable for existing components. For new products that are in development, we can work with you from the early stages of product design through to certification, ensuring that your design is Passive House-compliant.
Component Performance Verification (NEW!)
Expand your client base through established performance values
Passive House Canada can provide performance verification services for components or systems that may be used for high performance / Passive House projects, getting your product into the high performance building market faster. With verification data provided by a trusted source, your products can be more easily be selected by design teams looking for high performance components — helping you grow your customer base and giving customers the data they need to receive high performance building funding.
Our experts will establish your component’s performance in relation to ISO standards, following all appropriate standards and protocols. While perfect for all types of high performance building components and systems, this service is ideal for large (Part 3) building components or systems that won’t necessarily meet PHI component certification criteria but can still help bring the energy budget of your project down to Passive House or high performance levels. This service is also ideal for businesses whose components do not reach Passive House Institute standard levels but want to provide their customers with high performance component data.
Once we have completed our review, PHC will provide you with a verification letter and a thermal bridge value report attesting to our professional verification. Your company will also be listed on our website.
What can Passive House Canada help to verify?
- Window systems
- Curtain wall systems
- Doors

Benefits of Passive House Canada verification
Passive House Canada can help you get your products to the high performance building market for less, and faster. Additionally, we’ll ensure that you have data for high performance components that would be suitable for Part 3 buildings that may not hit PHI standard performance targets, but are still optimal for large structures.
Upon completion of our verification, you will receive complete data as well as a verification letter that outlines the performance of the product, instilling confidence that the performance data is complete and accurate. We will also list your verified component on our website.

Delivering PHI Component Certification
Passive House Canada can support your business in getting your building component assessed and developed/redeveloped for certification and registration with the Passive House Institute (PHI).
Benefits of PHI Component Certification
Certification means visibility in a global marketplace. Manufacturers who have certified their components are authorized to use PHI’s “Certified Passive House Component” seal for their products.
Because certified components are included in the international PHI component database and integrated into PHPP energy modelling software, these components and their manufacturers enjoy markedly increased market visibility, product recognition and specification.
While use of certified products is not required for Passive House building certification, PHI-certified components have their performance data readily available for designers to easily perform energy modeling with PHPP using your component.

Trusted data, shortened timelines
Save time and money by ensuring that your component or system meets PHI-certification standards. Passive House Canada is a trusted name in high performance data and systems verification. Our specialists, known throughout the industry, will support the modelling of your component to PHI standards, ensuring that your component meets its targets before heading for certification.
Holistic expertise
Your component or system will enjoy 360-degree support. Highly regarded in the high performance building industry, our specialized technical experts are able to support component design with 2D and 3D thermal bridge modelling.
How this service works
Passive House Canada will provide thorough, expert consultation and support throughout the component development. For existing components, we’ll provide you with calculations of all component, junction, and thermal bridge models.
New product design
For new products, we’ll work with you from inception to certification, ensuring that your design is Passive House-compliant. This service includes data collection, modelling and revisions, if necessary, until your component or system meets the requirements determined by Passive House Institute (PHI).
Once your component meets the relevant PHI component criteria, PHC’s technical experts will compile the certification documentation package and verification letter and send these materials directly to PHI on your behalf.
PHI will then conduct a review of the package and, if satisfied, prepares your component for official certification.

Certification fees and fee structures
Passive House Canada will charge a fee based on an initial estimate of the work involved in compiling certification data for your system. (Please note: if extensive revision is required, additional fees may be charged.)
PHI charges fees for the initial certification of components, after which additional annual fees are levied to maintain your component’s presence in its international database.
Manufacturers of PHI-certified components will also be available on the Passive House Canada website.
