The Passive House Institute recently formally introduced the renewal option for tradesman certification via trades documentation. The overall procedure—with the initial inspection of trades documentation and the contract design—is based on the project documentation provided by designers. A MicroSoft Word template is available to use for submitting this information. The building does not have to be a certified Passive House, as the conditions apply to the individual building components.
For an example of how such a thing can look like, see Information about certificate renewal via trades documentation.
Renewing Passive House tradesperson certification through trades documentation is fairly simple: The blue texts and characters mark the fields to be filled in the Word template. Furthermore, only a limited number of photos are required to supplement the text. Under point D—”Short description of the work”—a version in English is requested.
The assessing body for the trades documentation is the contact person for the tradesperson. This person supports, if necessary, and carries out the initial inspection of the created documentation. The final version, as usual, will be checked by the Passive House Institute and, if the application to renew is successful, PHI will send the extended certificate to the tradesperson.
The PHI fee structure can be viewed in the table of fees in the download area. The design with the applying tradesperson is free according to comparable services with PHI.
Tradespeople can also renew their PHI certification with Continuing Professional Development credit points, such as those acquired through having taken Passive House Canada courses.
