RAIC and Passive House Canada Partner to Advance High-Performance Building Skills for Canadian Architects

Ottawa, ON, September 1, 2026: The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) has partnered with Passive House Canada | Maison Passive Canada (PHC|MPC) to expand access to advanced high-performance building education for architects across Canada. Through the partnership, RAIC members will receive exclusive access to PHC|MPC’s specialized 120 series training for designers at the preferred rate offered to PHC|MPC members.

The partnership is a part of the RAIC’s broader work to strengthen architectural practice by connecting architects and firms with specialized knowledge, practical tools, and education that respond to a changing practice environment. It also advances the RAIC Climate Action Plan priorities of accelerating the transformation of practice, mobilizing partnerships, and investing in education and research.

For architects, Passive House provides an integrated approach to building performance that considers energy efficiency, occupant comfort, durability, lower operating costs, reduced mechanical system complexity, long-term asset value, and resilience as part of the design process.  Its principles can be applied across any building type and climate zone. High-performance building design is increasingly becoming a competitive advantage for architectural practices. Developing expertise in high-performance design can help architects and firms respond to evolving client expectations, regulatory requirements, and project demands while strengthening the expertise they bring to clients and project teams.

“Our members are navigating significant changes in how buildings are designed, delivered, and expected to perform. Part of the RAIC’s role is to make sure that architects and firms have access to the knowledge and practical skills they need to respond. Working with Passive House Canada brings recognized high-performance building expertise directly to our members, while supporting our broader commitment to transforming practice through education and collaboration.”

– Mike Brennan, CEO, Royal Architectural Institute of Canada

“Architects today are being asked to deliver buildings that perform better, last longer, cost less to operate, and create greater value for their clients. High-performance building design is no longer a niche specialization; it is becoming an essential part of professional practice. Through this partnership, RAIC members have direct access to internationally recognized Passive House training that equips them with the knowledge and practical skills to lead that transformation. As the financial and operational value of high-performance buildings becomes increasingly clear to developers, institutional owners, and private clients alike, there has never been a better time for architects to position themselves at the forefront of this evolution.”

– Michael Quast, CEO, Passive House Canada | Maison Passive Canada
