CEO Letter – June 2023

Passive House Canada is happy to announce that we have been appointed to the Advisory Council for Harmonized Construction Codes by the Canadian Board for Harmonized Construction Codes (CBHCC). This new position gives Passive House Canada a seat at the table to more effectively represent your voices on key policy issues related to the development of the National Model Code.

At the Passive House Canada conference this past month, we had the privilege of hearing from Hayley Martin from Codes Canada. In her presentation, she reminded us how important it is for Passive House practitioners to also get involved in the general standing meetings of the codes process. We encourage you to consider getting involved by requesting a code change, attending a code development meeting, or volunteering for a committee membership. You can view the website for the CBHCC here.

Codes Consultations

The CBHCC is looking for input from stakeholders, experts, code users, and the general public on the Wave 2 draft policy recommendations for developing and implementing greenhouse gas emissions provisions in the National Model Codes before finalizing the policy framework. You can find more information here on the Wave 2 consultation with a submission deadline of June 15. PHC submitted feedback for the first Wave which you can find here, and will be submitting a response for Wave 2 as well.

A consultation process for proposed changes to the B.C. building code is now open. The deadline for feedback is June 16th. Find more information about the proposed changes here.

Passive House Pulse PEI

PHC recently held our very first PEI Pulse event to learn about the Summerside Business Commons, a 16,000 square-foot manufacturing facility designed to Passive House standard – a first of its kind in Atlantic Canada. With this event, we are delighted to celebrate not only the expansion of sustainable building in the Atlantic region, but how impressively Passive House’s reach has grown from coast to coast.

Sincerely,
