Call for Speakers


 
The Tower Retrofit Symposium will be primarily hosted in a virtual setting, with opportunities for networking as well as smaller, in-person sessions.

We are looking for speakers that span the spectrum of knowledge on deep energy retrofits and EnerPHit projects.

Passive House Canada are called to submit online presentation proposals to present at the 2021 Tower Retrofit Symposium, September 22 – 23.
 


  • Subject Areas

    While the Symposium welcomes ideas from all areas that provide solutions to Global Climate Change and the resource challenges we face, priority will be given to the subjects identified to be of high interest which include:

    • 2050 Carbon plans (Lock-in)/Standards
    • Building code
    • Case studies
    • Contractors
    • Financing
    • Holistic, system as a building approach
    • IAQ – Covid
    • Panelization
    • Policy
    • Resident in place retrofit
    • Step-by-step retrofit – health & safety
    • Technical sessions – mechanical systems
    • Triggers for retrofits/Capital Planning
  • Format

    We aim to deliver engaging and interactive learning. Preference will be given to proposals that promote audience participation and proposals should be able to deliver:

    • Audience engagement with practical guidelines and real-world experience
    • Real examples or data to support the presentation concepts
    • Assume the audience already has the basic knowledge of the Passive House standard
    • Innovation, new information, recent advancements of industry concepts

    Proposals should refrain from focusing on a particular product and preference will be given to projects that are already under construction.

    The delivery style should fit within one of the following options:

    • Panel Discussion with Audience Engagement -Q&A
    • Instructional Workshop
    • Roundtable Discussion
    • PechaKucha style presentation (PechaKucha’s 20×20 presentation format shows your 20 chosen images, each for 20 seconds)
    • Informative Presentation
  • Evaluation Process

    The program committee will be reviewing all submissions and proposals will be evaluated based on:

    • Clarity of the submission
    • Relevance to the theme and subject area
    • Clear outline of the learning objectives

    Speaker proposals should be submitted directly through the submission form below. You will be asked to include:

    • Title of the session
    • Executive summary 100 words or less
    • Highlight the type of presentation proposed (lecture, panel, peer-to-peer, etc)
    • Provide 3 Learning Objectives
    • Select theme category (from selected list)
    • Identify Target Audience
    • Has or will this session be given at a different conference?
    • Highlight previous speaking experience
    • Contact: Include affiliation and email address of all presenters and if applicable, include a moderator if required

    All proposals will be reviewed by the members of the program committee and will be scored based on their ability to meet the above criteria.

  • Submission Agreement

    By submitting this proposal, all submitters and potential speakers agree to:

    • Ensure that all presentations are from an education perspective and that product specific content or self-promotion will not be included in presentations.
    • The actual time allotted for a presentation will be confirmed during the acceptance process.
    • Presentations may be pre-recorded, delivered live and/or captured and made available to participants online.
    • Session submitter may not propose speakers without the knowledge and permission of the proposed speaker(s).
