Net-zero urban home designed to be ultra-performing, affordable and also fit into the fabric of the local neighbourhood. Inspired by a home constructed several years prior by a relative of the Owners, Evolve helped direct the changes required to adapt the plan to a tight urban lot and perhaps more critically, created a costing model that permitted easy substitution of one part or assembly for others, in order to test the construction cost implications. With this Evolve collaborated closely with the energy modeler to determine best-cost outcomes for the NZ intentions – always checking to see whether it was more/less expensive to add more PV or improve various building envelope and mechanical options, thereby arriving at the best-construction cost AND building energy operational cost simultaneously.
