Project Description

The Affinity House is in Wasaga Beach, Ontario. The 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom, main floor master bedroom, extra large garage, expansive great room bungaloft is built for a young-minded, active, retired couple who is not ready for condo living.

Insulated, engineered wall panels are made by Quantum Passivhaus and assembled on site. Continuous fresh air is delivered by a Zehnder HRV. 16″ wall panels are insulated with Eco-batt insulation and have a wood frame and each panel is lined with Mento Membrane. The ceiling is insulated with cellulose. Presently, the plan is to use a Chiltrix heat pump for minimal heating requirements, cooling in Ontario’s hot summers, and to heat the hot water tank.

We have had many challenges on this project including: delays in window deliveries from Poland, costs exceeding budgeting (electrical, materials, township requirements for connecting to services…), trades needing continuous onsite supervision, birds,& cement pouring at -10C…

Each challenge was overcome with patience, education, and increased communication. And some challenges required additional funds being added to the project. Since this is our first passive house being built, each challenge becomes an opportunity to ensure future timely, successful builds.
