Project Description

The North Park Passive House was the first market Passive House condominium project built in Canada, which also used the new Passive House modelling software integrating renewable energy systems. The project offered six homes, each with separate entrances, two bedrooms and one bath.

Project Architect, Adam Fawkes, HCMA: “The design of the North Park Passive House combines neighbourhood context and Passive House principles… Details give a modern flare to the aesthetic while achieving the highest energy efficiency standard on the globe. Deep set windows and doors are a result of wall thickness and simply through their inherent quality will have a European feel, with detailing and shadow lines rather than more recent lightly built structures. Contemporary detailing such as vertical slats on the sides of the balconies and horizontal slats on the sliding bike storage doors distinguish the residences as modern. Accent colour on the front doors and clear finish cedar siding at walls and soffits nearby focus the eye and attention to these entrances, signalling that ‘neighbours live here’. This project provides a benchmark for future developments by showing what can be achieved with high quality residences designed within their architectural, urban and environmental context.”
