Project Description

Beautiful Passive House in the Cowichan Valley, British Columbia designed by Ecocentric Design, designer Hajo Meijer and built by Somenos Construction.

The Maple Bay Passive House is a 4 bed room home with an in-law suite and a detached carport on the slopes of Maple Mountain. Targeting PH Plus certification, it incorporates a 12 kW PV solar array and a Sanden HP. The many evergreen trees surrounding the site proved to be a challenge for solar ingress, resulting in a building with thick layers of insulation. Rain water will be harvested for garden irrigation and materials used are mostly natural and carbon sequestering:
– wood structure
– rockwool and cellulose insulation
– concrete foundation with graphite infused EPS below grade only
– metal and wood cladding
– metal roofing
