Project Description

The Blackwell House is the first of three passive houses to be built in Guelph’s old south end. Its design elegantly blends the modern farmhouse architectural style of the neighborhood with the highest level of energy efficiency and indoor air quality of today’s construction standards. Frontiers Design-Build named the house to honor the British born physician Dr. Elisabeth Blackwell MD, a social awareness and moral reformer who made a significant contribution to the promotion of education for women in medicine. She was the first woman to receive a medical degree in the United States. The Blackwell House is Frontiers continued expression the firm’s ethos: Comfort, Quiet, Health, Durability and Mindfulness. It is targeting Passive House Classic certification.
