The vision for this project is to provide approximately 125 units of affordable rental and lower end of market units for senior residents. The development site is approximately 40,000 sq. ft. and incorporates the surface parking lot that is currently used to capacity. A preliminary concept plan for a highrise 14 storey apartment building with one level of underground parking has been developed.
Currently there is a three-storey low rise residential apartment building with a large amenity space and inner courtyard. Currently the quality of this space at Westminster Place is one of the most appealing aspects of the current development and plays a significant role in the quality of life of residents. Maintaining and improving upon these features is an important aspect of any future intensification process.
Of central importance is the interface between the existing structures and the new proposals; a linking space would be required, and therefore careful consideration to the design of this space is paramount.
This building is being designed to conform to the Passive House standard. Resilient, comfortable, healthy and affordable. Low carbon and safe housing for seniors on lower incomes. A secure home that protects occupants from energy poverty.
