Webinar description

In this webinar series, we focus on Canadian projects across the country.

Our next stop is in Saskatchewan!

Join our guest, Michael Nemeth, as he presents lessons learned from Radiance Cohousing located in Saskatoon.

Radiance Cohousing is a 9-unit townhouse-style cohousing development located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan that was completed in the fall of 2018. The project was led by a group who pooled their resources, formed a development company, and worked together to plan and manage the development of their own homes.

By combining cohousing with Passivhaus design, this project showcases quality homes that build community and respond to a changing climate. The wall assemblies attain an overall R-value of 60.

The development was part of a Canadian pilot for the use of wood-fibre insulation thanks to the Canadian Wood Council, FP Innovations and 475 High Performance Building Supplies. Canadian manufactured Passivhaus-certified windows, oriented for solar gain, completed the assemblies.

Michael Nemeth

Michael Nemeth lives in Saskatoon with his adventure partner Shannon Dyck and son, Aven. Designing heating, cooling and ventilation systems for many types of buildings, he’s been consulting in mechanical engineering since 2006. In 2013, Michael started Bright Buildings to help others build to the Passivhaus standard. Michael’s background as a mechanical consulting engineer and green building designer brought him to the realization that, in terms of affordability and sustainability, we need to do a lot better with our buildings. Since that moment of clarity, Michael has been studying the Passive House standard and learning how to best apply its principles, working from a Passive House consultancy in Saskatoon. In April 2015 was named by Corporate Knights magazine as one of Canada’s top sustainability leaders under 30.
