Join us for the final exciting installment in our Cold Climate Webinar Series!

Hosted by Passive House Canada CEO, Chris Ballard, this session will feature an engaging panel discussion with the leaders from our previous Cold Climate webinars including Marcel Studer of the Econ Group, Paul Hammond of Low Hammond Rowe Architects, Doug Mackie of WCPG Construction and Stuart Fix of ReNü Engineering.

 

Here is some information about this sessions speakers!

Marcel Studer

Certified Passive House Designer, Certified Passive House Trades Person, Board member and PHC instructor. Marcel is the Principal of Econ Group Ltd, a Vancouver based construction firm with a strong focus on modern, high quality architecture designed to the International Passive House Standard. Holding a Masters Degree in Architecture from the Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich (Switzerland), Marcel has lived and worked in Canada for the last 15 years. Marcel completed the Passive House Design course in 2011 and has been involved in multiple Passive House projects in and around Vancouver as a project manager, consultant or designer.

Paul Hammond, Architect AIBC, MRAIC, CPHD, Low Hammond Rowe Architects Inc

Paul is a principal architect of LHRA with 29 years’ experience collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams for post-secondary institutions, public library boards and non-profit housing agencies. He began his career in Toronto involved with the design and construction of academic buildings, libraries and public schools. In 2005, he moved to BC with his family and joined the practice. Most recently, Paul has focused on the design and development of high performance, affordable residential buildings serving diverse housing needs across BC.  Paul is a versatile architect interested in the thoughtful synthesis of program, site and material opportunities, to create sustainable solutions that add value to our communities.

Stuart Fix, Principal, ReNü Engineering

Stuart is a professional mechanical engineer with a master’s degree in building science and holds certification as a Passive House Designer in both Germany and North America. Stuart is a founder of Passive Buildings Canada and sits on both the Passive House Institute US’s technical and the ASHRAE 227 Passive Building Standard committees. Stuart has a background in machine design and project management, and has been active in high performance building design since 2008. He focuses on leading edge mechanical design, and is fascinated with the integration of mechanical and envelope systems in the pursuit of cost effective energy efficiency. Stuart is an accomplished technical designer and an experienced contributor to inter-disciplinary groups in a global setting.

Doug Mackie, Senior Project Manager, WCPG

Doug recently joined WCPG after being involved in the residential construction business for over 30 years. He has managed projects ranging from luxury one suite per floor high rises, large 4 story wood frame condo buildings over parkades, townhouses, and single-family homes. He has built many social housing projects in BC and has spent many years directly on jobsites. Doug prides himself on his detail knowledge of the construction process.

 

Key points including thermal comfort and indoor air quality, training of the trades, quality assurance, impacts on cost and labour, and the overall long-term benefits of Passive House projects will be discussed within a cold climate context.

In collaboration with Parks Canada, do not miss this final session geared to better inform the design community, contractors, engineers, and tradespeople on how to meet design and building standards for new builds seeking to achieve Passive House certification.
