Passive House Canada members who are developing innovative solutions to meet the high-performance building targets outlined in Build Smart: Canada’s Buildings Strategy may be eligible for federal clean energy innovation funding.
The recently released national buildings strategy for Canada puts architects, builders and suppliers who provide Passive House-related services and materials for construction at the leading edge of an emerging market transformation. Build Smart: Canada’s Buildings Strategy is a key driver of the Pan-Canadian Framework on Clean Growth and Climate Change and commits the provinces and their communities to dramatically improve performance and energy efficiency of new and existing building stock over the coming decades.
Join us this Saturday, August 12, on our Passive House social & bike tour. We will start at Vancouver City Hall, then bike along Ontario Street to visit four passive houses at various stages of construction.
We have scheduled a Passive House & Ice Box Challenge Industry Social for Wednesday, August 2. Here is your opportunity to visit the Ice Box Challenge and see the changes that have occurred in the first week. Shaun St. Amour, who oversaw construction of the Ice Box Challenge installation, will present on how the Ice Box Challenge was developed and describe the construction process.
It takes a community to build a Passive House. It also takes a community to build a community of high-performance buildings.
Modeled on similar events held recently in Europe, Ice Box Challenge is run by Passive House Canada, with support from the City of Vancouver, Vancity, and members of the local construction industry. Passive House Canada and the rest of the Ice Box Challenge team thank the many individuals and businesses who volunteered time, donated supplies, materials and space, and contributed expertise and enthusiasm to making Ice Box Challenge happen.
This week Passive House Canada members RDH and Red Door Energy Design in Vancouver announced they are merging, combining the Passive House consulting and certification operations of Red Door with RDH Building Science. We’d like to extend our congratulations and look forward to seeing the fruits of their partnership!
As many of you will already know, the Passive House Institute requires you to renew your Passive House Designer or Consultant certification every five years. As of May 2016, there are two ways you can do this.
We announced at the North American Passive House Network conference last year that CanPHI West was becoming a national organization. We have members and course conductors across Canada, and it was clear there is strong demand for a professional, national organization to advocate and accelerate adoption of the Passive House high performance building standard in Canada.
It was agreed at our AGM in June 2016 that our name would be Passive House Canada | Maison Passive Canada. Building on our reputation as a trusted and progressive organization, we have changed our branding as well as our name. We believe our new look reflects our values of innovation, science and community, and conveys the powerful simplicity that is behind Passive House design and construction.
Our new website has been designed to better share resources and information, foster community and grow the sustainable construction industry. New features include a project database, job board, a forum for local members, detailed member profiles and an improved resources centre.
Whether you’re an architect, designer, developer, tradesperson, policy maker or a curious homeowner, our website will help you understand the Passive House high performance building standard, connect you with professionals and provide a comprehensive calendar of training opportunities across Canada.
We hope you find the website a useful resource, and to see you at a course or event soon!
