As the Project Manager reporting to the Senior Director, Education, the successful applicant will lead initiatives aimed at advancing high-performance building products within Canada’s social housing sector. Responsibilities include collaborating with social housing providers and manufacturers to develop product performance specifications, integrate design strategies, and facilitate capacity building initiatives, including financial tracking and budgeting for training of building officials across the country as well as large building air tightness training. Success will be measured by meeting budget, schedule, quality, and safety requirements, while closely engaging with project stakeholders such as owners, consultants, subtrades, and senior management. The Project Manager must be adept at multitasking across various projects and tasks, working independently, building strong relationships, and adapting to shifting priorities and project requirements. Expertise should encompass a proven track record in building systems, thermodynamics, and advanced building energy analysis across diverse building types in Canada.

Key Responsibilities

    • Ensure all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget. 
    • Maintain proper and accurate records of all data, analyses, and technical assessments as well as information related to project outputs and outcomes. 
    • Maintain a detailed breakdown of any capital equipment purchased, including make, model and unit price. 
    • Report project tasks with sufficient detail, including outputs and key performance indicators to enable progress evaluation. 
    • Utilize appropriate verification techniques to manage changes in project scope, schedule and costs. 
    • Collaborate closely with social housing provider partners to develop product performance specifications for high-performance windows, building systems, and ventilation components. 
    • Lead an integrated design approach, collaborating with manufacturers to identify barriers, conduct technical studies, research, feasibility assessments, and technical assistance to enhance manufacturing processes for high-performance products. 
    • Engage with Canadian manufacturers to educate, build capacity, and facilitate the delivery of high-performance building products to social housing providers. 
    • Compile and present specifications for tender to social housing providers, along with a standardized template for nationwide adoption. 
    • Contribute to the development of best practice presentations and a roadmap to enhance industry capacity in replicating our process. 
    • Assist in creating a comprehensive stakeholder engagement and communications program to disseminate best practices and the roadmap to industry stakeholders and social housing providers nationwide. 
    • Develop a generalized product specification template that is easily understood by industry stakeholders and can be utilized by social housing providers across Canada during tender processes. 
    • Collaborate with the Learning & Development Coordinator to manage programs that train designers and field testers to conduct large building airtightness testing focused on NBC Part 3 to ensure building performance and compliance and train building officials on forthcoming construction changes due to ambitious code adoption, spanning from building enclosures to mechanical heating, cooling systems, and ventilation. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.  
  • PEng., PMP, Passive House CPHD/C, LEED, or other technical certifications an asset. 
  • 5+ years demonstrated experience in project management within the construction/building science industry, with a focus on high-performance building products and sustainable design practices. 
  • Experience with sustainable building rating tools such as LEED, WELL, Zero Carbon Building, regional sustainable design requirements, etc. 
  • Understanding of local and regional energy codes, including but not limited to NECB, ASHRAE 90.1, BC Step Code, and VBBL. 
  • Knowledge of Canadian and provincial building codes, regulations, and standards related to energy efficiency and sustainability. 
  • Familiarity with the PHI component criteria, particularly the energy modeling associated with component certification. 
  • Knowledge and interest in building performance, thermal bridging, embodied carbon and climate resiliency and adaptation 
  • Experience preparing energy modelling documentation and submittals. 
  • Strong technical knowledge of building systems, windows, and ventilation components, as well as experience in product specification development. 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of construction documents, drawings, specifications, costs, budgets and current construction practices and methodology.

  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and problem-solve in a fast-paced environment, and effectively manage deadlines. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders including manufacturers, social housing providers, and industry professionals and develop networks 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams, manage complex projects, and drive results within established timelines and budgets. 
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement, capacity building, and communications strategies is highly desirable. 
  • Strong business acumen, contract negotiation skills, and the ability to exercise sound judgment. 
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Salary Range

The salary range for this position is $90,000 to $110,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
